RightCard: the best card in your wallet, for the store you are standing in
RightCard
You carry a card that pays extra at grocery stores. You buy groceries at Costco, and the bonus never posts. The store you walked into decided that. RightCard is a free iPhone app built on that one fact.
You name the store, it names the card that earns the most
You name the store. It names the card that earns the most.
Setup is typing in the names of the cards you already carry. No card numbers, and no bank login, ever. After that, the answer comes out of your own wallet. We typed a store into the demo on the product's own site, and this is the answer it gave.
Your bank's app only ranks your bank's cards
Your bank’s app only ranks your bank’s cards.
This is for anyone carrying two or three cards from different banks. The card that wins changes from store to store, and the winner can be any bank's card. That comparison spans banks.
The bonus pays against the store's four digit code
The bonus pays against the store’s four digit code, not what’s in your cart.
Every store that takes card payments carries a four digit number, called a merchant category code. That number says what kind of store this is: a supermarket, a warehouse club, a discount store. One number covers the whole store. Your grocery bonus pays against that number, and the groceries in your cart never enter the calculation. Supermarkets are five four one one. Costco is five three zero zero, a warehouse club. Walmart Supercenters run under a discount store code, five three one zero. Push the same cart through those three doors, and only one of them pays your grocery bonus. Coding happens store by store, so treat this as usually, and not always. Walmart's own smaller Neighborhood Market stores are often coded as real supermarkets, so the same card earns there and misses at the Supercenter down the road. And here is why RightCard never needs your bank. Store codes are public. Card rates are published. The one private piece is the list of cards in your wallet, and you typed that in yourself.
Asked about Costco, the app names the best rate it can guarantee
Asked about Costco, the app names the best rate it can guarantee.
In the app's own screen for Costco, RightCard names a card, and puts a warning on that answer: a warehouse club is coded so that bonuses usually do not post. That card carries the best rate the app can guarantee you there. This is a product arguing against its own most flattering answer.
What you track, you type
It can’t see your spending, so what you track, you type.
So, product or feature? A real product, and the catch is that you do the typing. The maker says it straight: entered by you, so it's your record, never an estimate. RightCard is free, on iPhone and iPad, for cards from the major U.S. banks. Built by Parikshit Madahar.
Same cart, different door, different answer
The store's code decides your bonus. RightCard tells you which card in your wallet that code pays, before you reach the register.
