SoloUno: the app for the habit you never catch yourself doing
SoloUno
You catch your hand at your mouth, biting your nails, with no idea when you started. SoloUno is a phone app for that moment. The habit happens before you notice it, so deciding to stop never gets a chance. SoloUno asks you to notice the habit first.
One tap, every time the habit happens
One tap, every time the habit happens.
When the habit happens, you log it in the app, right then, or later. You can add where you were, watching TV, driving, at your laptop, and how you were feeling. That is the entire job, and the habit is on the record.
Biting, picking, pulling: your hands get there first
Biting, picking, pulling: your hands get there first.
Nail biting, skin picking, hair pulling. These are some of the most common habits there are, and SoloUno is for anyone whose hands start without them. The app says most habit apps assume you can just stop. The habit runs on autopilot, and you cannot interrupt something you never caught.
Log the moment, learn the trigger, ride out the urge, bank the hour
Log the moment, learn the trigger, ride out the urge, bank the hour.
Log the habit a few times, and the app hands you a ranked list of your top triggers, the situations and the moods that set the habit off. Now you can see the habit coming. Then, for the moment the urge hits, there is a one-minute exercise. It guides you through sitting with the urge, and there is a button to tap when the urge fades. And the app asks you for one hour. Stay habit-free for that hour and you bank it, then a few hours, then a run of days. The app says it is built on the approaches therapists use for these habits.
You never have to say which habit it is
You never have to say which habit it is.
At sign up, the app asks which habit you are working on. One option in that list is simply Private. So, product or feature? A general habit tracker counts days. SoloUno knows what sets your habit off, and it has something for the ten seconds when the urge is on you. There is a bracelet that buzzes when it feels the motion, and SoloUno is that idea on a phone, with no hardware to buy. The app says you can use it alongside therapy, and the log is the homework you bring to a session.

Omer Bialer built SoloUno. The trial runs two weeks, and after that the subscription is about eight dollars a month, or about sixty dollars for the year.
The habit stops being invisible
The habit your hands were doing without you is now something you can see, plan around, and win an hour at a time.
