Gemini CLI v0.62.0
Gemini CLI v0.62.0 keeps you signed in with Google
Plus fixes for cancelled requests, proxies, the Windows shell and editor tool calls.
Gemini CLI v0.62.0 keeps you signed in with Google. A token refresh used to drop your saved refresh token, which forced a new sign-in after about an hour. Now the token is kept.
Cancelling a request no longer crashes Gemini CLI on Node 23
On Node 23 and newer, cancelling a request used to crash the whole CLI. The abort error escaped every handler. Gemini CLI now catches that expected error and carries on.
Vertex AI works behind HTTPS_PROXY again
If you use Vertex AI with a proxy set in your environment, sign-in used to crash with a type error about the proxy agent. The bundled CLI now loads its proxy agents correctly.
01: The shell tool
The shell tool.
Shell commands on Windows finish when the process exits
On Windows, the terminal's exit signal could arrive out of order, and a finished command might never report back. Gemini CLI now drains the output and completes the command once the process exits.
Long shell output now has a memory cap
Commands with long output now use less memory. Each terminal keeps up to 50,000 lines, oversized output is trimmed from the middle, and color data is skipped when color is off.
Finished shell sessions give their terminal back to the system
On macOS and Linux, a finished shell session now closes its terminal device and hands it back to the system. Quick commands skip the background log, and each background process gets a single log stream.
A one-column terminal no longer crashes the UI
Shrink the terminal to a single column during an edit confirmation, and drawing the border used to hit a negative width and throw a range error. Every width is now clamped at zero.
02: Editors and ACP
Editors and ACP.
Closing a diff in VS Code leaves your cursor in the terminal
In VS Code, when Gemini CLI closes its diff preview, keyboard focus now stays in the integrated terminal. Before, closing the tab pulled focus to the editor, so you clicked back to keep typing.
Editors see a tool call before they are asked to approve it
In Agent Client Protocol mode, Gemini CLI now announces a tool call as pending before it asks for permission, so the editor can link the two. A denied call is marked failed.
MCP tool calls now read as function signatures
When an editor asks you to approve an MCP tool call, the title now reads like a function call, with the tool name and its arguments. The raw JSON is gone.
Three fixes for errors and reports
The link in the Google Cloud project error now opens the setup docs instead of a missing page. Bug reports on Windows keep the backslashes in file paths. And the A2A server answers an unsupported task-store request with one clean response.
