Claude Code v2.1.318 now tells you when your claude.ai sign-in ends

Claude Code v2.1.318: claude auth status now shows when your stored claude.ai sign-in ends, and claude -p warns 10 days ahead. Also: a broken ~/.claude.json is no longer replaced with defaults, the IDE extension no longer installs itself from an IDE terminal, cloud sessions can start without a repository, and background subagents move long shell commands aside after 3 minutes. https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/releases/tag/v2.1.318 https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/compare/v2.1.317...v2.1.318

Claude Code now tells you when your stored claude.ai sign-in ends. claude auth status shows the date, and claude -p starts warning ten days ahead, so a scheduled job no longer just stops one morning.
If your ~/.claude.json file was damaged, a headless launch used to replace it with defaults. Now Claude Code refuses to start, says how to restore it, and leaves the file alone.
Starting Claude Code inside your editor's terminal used to install or update the IDE extension for you. It no longer does. Run /ide from an outside terminal, or update it from your editor's extensions view.
Cloud sessions on an Anthropic-hosted environment get a No repository option, so you can start one without picking a repo. And tools other than Playwright can now find the built-in Chromium.
A background subagent now moves a shell command to the background after three minutes, on every provider. That keeps the prompt cache from expiring while a long build or test run finishes.
Three fixes. --continue no longer loses your earlier conversation after a bad tool call. Mac sessions running many Bash commands stop stalling. And keys you type after sending a message no longer answer a permission prompt.
The Claude Code changelog lists dozens more fixes, for MCP, cloud sessions, VS Code and the gateway. If you run claude -p on a schedule, I'd update today. The sign-in warning alone is worth it.
