Codex CLI now lets you steer a reply while it is still answering
Codex CLI now takes a follow-up while it is still answering. Type a correction mid-reply and Codex steers to it right away, without waiting for the turn to finish.
Interrupting a turn stops Code Mode too
codex-cliRunning Code Mode cells and their nested tool calls end with the turn.
When you interrupt a turn, Code Mode now stops with it. Any running Code Mode cells and the tool calls nested inside them end with it as well.
Read-only tools run side by side
codex-cliCodex can now run lookups that only read in parallel: skill lookups, memory lookups, and conversation history searches.
Daybreak is on by default for eligible accounts
codex-clicodex exec can pick Daybreak with an OpenAI API key, when the server offers access.
Daybreak, the Cyber access program in Codex, is now on by default for eligible accounts. In codex exec, you can also select Daybreak with an OpenAI API key, when the server offers access.

/config searches every setting and applies changes live
codex-cliSettings that still need a restart say so.
Type /config to search your preferences across every category. Supported changes take effect immediately, and the panel tells you which ones still need a restart.
Set a leader key in /keymap
codex-cliIn /keymap you can now set a leader key. The default is Control X. Shortcut hints stay on screen until you pick one or cancel. If you use voice, mute moves to F9.
Restart the background server from /daemon
codex-cliCodex warns about work a restart could interrupt, then reconnects.
/daemon can now restart the background server Codex manages for you. It warns about work in other chats the restart could interrupt, then reconnects on its own.
/side takes you back to your side conversation
codex-cliEven after you switch threads. Answers to pending prompts go to the thread that asked.
Switching threads used to throw away your side conversations. Now /side reopens the one you had. And when you answer a pending prompt, the answer goes back to the thread that asked.
Codex no longer bundles a patched zsh
codex-cliCodex dropped its patched zsh. Commands run through its standard shell executor. Configs with the retired shell flags get a migration notice. The Linux and macOS packages are smaller, too.
Fixes
codex-cliFixes.
A resumed thread keeps its permissions
codex-cliNetwork approvals come back too. Explicit overrides and managed policy still win.
Resuming a saved thread now brings back the permissions and network approvals you gave it. An override you pass explicitly, or your organization's current managed policy, still takes priority.
The network proxy closes three gaps
codex-cliThe network proxy got three security fixes. It checks permission before looking up a hostname, so unapproved hosts never reach DNS. It rejects requests with two Host headers. And a credential alias can't bypass inspection hooks.
Pasting text works on Windows and WSL
codex-cliOn Windows, Control V and Shift Insert now paste text, not just images. On WSL, repeated pastes reuse the clipboard reader, and a stuck copy times out instead of hanging.
Commands finish when they are done
codex-cliA local command now finishes promptly even when a child process keeps its output pipe open. Remote commands keep output that arrives late. And codex exec stops printing the same file diff twice.
Codex starts again, and multiline questions stop crashing
codex-cliEarlier in the week, a smaller release fixed two failures in the terminal interface. A question with several lines no longer crashes it. And a background server whose feature settings differ from the defaults no longer stops Codex from starting.
