Cline 4.1.17
4.1.17Long sessions stop eating memory, and the default model moves for 57 providers.
Here is what changed in Cline 4.1.17. Long sessions stop eating memory, tool calling comes back for four model families, and the default model moves for dozens of providers.
01 Long sessions
4.1.17Long sessions
What long tasks did to the machine.

Hub memory
4.1.17A long task could grow the Hub to tens of gigabytes
Snapshots now carry state only
Every session status update broadcast a full copy of the conversation to every connected client. On a large task each change shipped megabytes and ballooned the background Hub process. Snapshots now carry state only.
Hook failures
4.1.17A hook that fails to spawn stays contained
The core process survives it
A hook script that failed to spawn used to crash the extension's core process and take your running task with it. Now the failure stops at the hook.
Aborting a task
4.1.17Aborting a task now stops the agents it spawned
Subagents and teammates get cancelled with it
When you abort a task, Cline now cancels the subagents and teammates it delegated to. Before, you stopped the task and their work kept running.
02 Accounts and keys
4.1.17Accounts and keys
Getting signed in, and staying signed in.
Getting signed in, and staying signed in.
Pasted keys
4.1.17Pasted keys lose the characters a clipboard smuggles in
Newlines, zero-width spaces, byte order marks
A copied API key can carry newlines and zero-width spaces from the clipboard. The masked field hid them and the provider returned a 401 that looked like a wrong key. Cline now strips them.
Codex sign-in
4.1.17Codex sign-in tells you when port 1455 is taken
The callback needs that port to come back
Signing in to OpenAI Codex needs callback port 1455. If something else holds it, the browser opened a flow that could never return. You now get a port in use error.
Token refresh
4.1.17A network blip during a token refresh no longer signs you out
Only a rejected refresh token does
A transient network failure while refreshing your Codex token used to sign you out. Only a genuinely rejected refresh token now sends you back to authenticate.
ClinePass
4.1.17ClinePass now shows up where you would look for it
Account card, provider settings hint, home banner
ClinePass is now described on the account page, hinted in provider settings, and announced by a banner on the home screen. Dismissed banners stay dismissed.
03 Models
4.1.17Models

Model catalog
4.1.17The default model moved for 57 providers
Anthropic now resolves to Claude Fable 5.1. Pin a model, or expect a different default.
The built-in model catalog got an unusually wide refresh. Ten providers arrive and the resolved default changes for 57 of them. On Anthropic that is now Claude Fable 5.1 instead of Claude Opus 5.
Tool calling
4.1.17Tool calling comes back for four model families
Dify · SAP AI Core · opencode · Codex CLI
These models declare no capabilities in the catalog, and that empty list was read as a denial that stripped every tool from the request. Dify, SAP AI Core, opencode and Codex CLI can call tools again.
Images in file reads
4.1.17Images stopped being dropped from file reads
Same empty capability list, same silent strip
The same empty capability list also dropped images from file reads. Your model could take the image, the catalog did not say so, and it was stripped anyway.
04 Your workspace
4.1.17Your workspace
Your commits, your line endings, your rules.
Your commits, your line endings, your rules.
Checkpoint restore
4.1.17Restoring a checkpoint refuses to erase later commits
Chat-only restore is unaffected
Restoring a checkpoint used to knock later commits off the branch, where only the reflog could recover them. It now refuses to run in that case.
Line endings, rules, servers
4.1.17Line endings, rules, and a stalled server
- apply_patch keeps a file's existing CRLF endings
- Global rules also load from ~/Cline/Rules
- A remote MCP server gets ten seconds to connect
apply_patch now preserves a file's CRLF line endings. Global rules also load from the Cline Rules folder in your home directory. And an unreachable remote MCP server gets ten seconds instead of stalling startup.
Chat, cost, catalog
4.1.17A crash, a cost line, and a stale list
- Malformed api_req payloads no longer crash the chat
- Subscription tasks drop the cost estimate in history
- Cline provider models come from the live catalog
A malformed api_req payload no longer crashes the chat render. Task history stops showing a cost estimate on subscription billed tasks. And Cline provider models come from the live catalog, so new ones appear without an update.

All of it lands through the SDK bundle, so it applies to any window running that bundle. That is Cline 4.1.17.
